Take care of your new umbrella
Our aim at Rain and Son is that you should be able to use your design umbrella for a long time. If you treat your umbrella with care it will last you for many years to come.
By following our umbrella care instructions below you will prolong the durability of your umbrella.
Dry your umbrella
- Never leave your umbrella wet and creased up. This may eventually cause damage to the fabric of the umbrella and on the steel frame.
- Leave umbrella open to dry naturally.
- Avoid water on the underside of your umbrella and then close it.
- Leave your umbrella to dry away from direct sunlight to prevent the colours from fading.
Clean your umbrella
- We recommend you to clean the fabric using water only. You can soak the umbrella in a large tub and wash the surface of the umbrella carefully with a soft sponge.
- Once the umbrella is clean, it is important that you leave it fully open until the umbrella is completely dry.
Open your umbrella correctly
- When the umbrella is closed up the ribs can sometimes get caught in the fabric or on one another. To prevent this, please give your umbrella a little shake to free the ribs before opening it. This will lower the risk of bending or breaking the ribs.
Compact umbrellas
- Most importantly our compact umbrellas have an automatic opening and closing function. Meaning to open and close the umbrella please press the button on the wooden handle.
- Please never point your umbrella at anyone when opening it.
Classic umbrellas
- Our classic umbrellas do not have an automatic opening function and can be opened and closed normally.
- Remember to point your umbrella downwards when opening it. If not the wind can catch it and turn it inside out.
- Move the runner up the shaft carefully to release the frame.
Close your umbrella the right way
First of all make sure it is dry. Read more above on how to dry your umbrella.
Compact Umbrella
- All our compact umbrellas, including the reflective umbrellas, have an automatic closing function. Please press the button on the curved wooden handle to close it. If the umbrella is not closed correctly or closed by using force, the umbrella can break.
- Take some time to carefully roll the fabric to prevent it from creasing. This will make your umbrella look new much longer.
- Secure the fabric with the wooden button and place it in the umbrella holder.
Classic Umbrellas
- Close your classic umbrella by holding down the top spring and sliding the runner back down the shaft. Make sure this is done slowly to prevent the ribs from getting caught in the fabric or on one another.
- Take some time to carefully roll the fabric to prevent it from creasing. This will make your umbrella look new much longer.
- Secure the fabric with the wooden button and place it in the umbrella holder.
Avoid high winds
- Avoid using your umbrella in extreme wind as umbrellas in general are not designed for too strong winds.
Store your umbrella the correct way
- Your umbrella came in a nice cover that should be used to store the umbrella.
- Store your umbrella in a cool, dark place such a closet.
- Do not lean your umbrella against a radiator to dry or any other indirect heat sources.
- Do not leave your umbrella in a hot car. Prolonged exposure to heat can cause damage to your umbrella.
- Do not store your umbrella in direct sunlight as it can cause the colours on the canopy to fade.
